This homemade chilli tapas sauce is ideal for giving your favourite dishes a spicy kick. This sauce, made with ancho and guajillo chilies, has a rich, smoky flavor that goes well with meats, vegetables, and other dishes.

Instructions

  • Toast the ancho and guajillo chilies in a dry skillet over medium-high heat until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  • Cover the toasted chilies in a bowl with boiling water.
  • Allow for 10-15 minutes to soften.
  • Combine the softened chilies, bell pepper, garlic, olive oil, cumin, oregano, cinnamon, salt, water, and vinegar in a blender or food processor.
  • Blend until completely smooth.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened and the flavors have melded.
  • Remove from the heat and set aside to cool until room temperature before serving.
